WRAL-TV tested the new mobile television system in its Raleigh, N.C. market this week. The station, a CBS affiliate owned by Capitol Broadcasting, Co., carried out the tests with LG Electronics, Zenith and Harris. Those companies developed the Mobile-Handheld-Pedestrian transmission technology that was recently combined with elements of another technology competing for standardization by the Advanced Television Systems Committee

. That process is expected to be complete in the coming months.

WRAL sent out “two channels of specially encoded video” via its digital transmitter to prototype receivers in the field. Results hadn“t been released at press time.

Capitol Broadcasting is a member of the Open Mobile Video Coalition, the group leading the charge to get a mobile DTV standard in place.
