ENG Trucks Drag Race

by TVB Staff
Two El Paso, Texas, ENG crews covering legal drag racing after a fatal race on a nearby highway ended up on the course, and in hot water.

Crews from KDBC-TV, the CBS affiliate owned by Pappas, and KVIA-TV, the ABC affiliate owned by News-Press & Gazette Co., decided to race their cumbersome TV vans. The event was captured via cell phone video by onlookers, one of whom posted it on YouTube.

The racing vans displayed all the swiftness of swimming manatees, but station management was not amused. One crew member was fired, according to a published report. Another, upon retrospection, said that he should have perhaps stopped the race.
